Bark Plug is a new AI chatbot at Mississippi State University that answers questions about campus. The branding design project was completed by graphic design students and then presented to the marketing and engineering departments for approval and future discussion. I completed the logo, iconography, illustrations, and web layout for my particular team. Bark Plug’s main design goal is to balance friendliness and intelligence. The Bark Plug branding materials are designed to be easy to use and navigate while still having personality and visual appeal. Bark Plug’s logo is traced after handwriting, to add variety and interest to the design. The typeface is inspired by the energy and noise of “Bark” while the U and the G form a cord to highlight “Plug” in the brand name. The desktop layout is easy to understand, while still being interesting. The cord wraps around the background of the layout, and the two cords will click together once a search is submitted. Bark Plug also has personalizable profile pictures, showing different emotions to add a connection between Bark Plug and users. The mascot of the brand is a robot bulldog to connect the ideas of AI and Mississippi State University and to serve as a friendly and intelligent companion to users. The social media for Bark Plug is designed to maintain branding and color schemes and allow users to gain knowledge easily.
