The Cobb Institute Display was completed for the Intro to the Business of Museums class at Mississippi State University. Each student had to collaborate with an Archaeologist at the Cobb Institute to bring their research on display for the public. We worked together to gather research, writing, label information, and artifacts while maintaining proper museum practices. The Cobb Institute Exhibition Design focuses on the uses of Conch Shells at the Aklis Site in the U.S. Virgin Islands. There were many artifacts and research to use, so the main goal of this project was to find the research highlights and make the information accessible to visitors of the Cobb Institute. The exhibition used a central layout showing one of the full conch shells and branching out to the different types of artifacts. The labels are designed to be simple while still having color, proper formatting, and some graphics. The labels and photographs are balanced alongside each artifact. The smaller artifacts are displayed on top of stands, to have the proper hierarchy and emphasis of each. Angles of artifacts and labels were important to think about to add depth and the best views for guests.
